Youth to Explore Service Options and Have a BLAST Too!
I hope the new year finds you well rested and excited about the events planned for our youth. January finds us crafting new goals around which to guide our daily steps—perhaps it’s a new diet, budget, or a plan to blog regularly. The youth ministry at HCUCC wants to consider a different goal or resolution. This year, I‘d like all of us to shape our lives around acts of service, personal and spiritual growth through contemplative practice, and the dedication to living out thoughtful and compassionate lives. We hope that all of you (parents, youth, HCUCC members and friends) will join us in modeling lives filled with these virtues.
Every month, we will plan at least one event to engage our minds around service. For example, on Sunday, January 15, we will be traveling to Indian Trail, NC, to sort clothes and other items at Common Things Thrift Store. We’ll leave from the church at 10 AM and return around 2 PM You should plan to bring $5-$10 to cover lunch.
We’ll also be trekking out to Laser Quest on Saturday, January 28, for a fun-filled, laser-blasting extravaganza. For $15, you get two full games of laser tag (lasting 25 minutes each). We will leave the church around 10:15 AM, play laser tag around 11 AM, grab lunch at noon, and arrive back at the church around 1:30 PM Bring $5 dollars to cover pizza costs.
While we will have many events this year, I want to ask that you think of some ways in which you might make an impact in our community and world. Your ideas could be something we can incorporate into our practice as a group. I look forward to our year together. May it be a year of growth, change and depth.
