where love of neighbor is expressed,
feelings of the heart are shared,
and thinking is encouraged.
Responding to God’s love is our purpose.
When our denomination's Pilgrim forebears left Europe in 1620, their pastor urged them to keep their minds and hearts open to new ways. God, the Rev. John Robinson said, "has yet more light and truth to break forth out of his holy Word." We have sought to keep our hearts and minds open ever since, listening for the word of our still-speaking God.
Holy Covenant United Church of Christ seeks to be a transformative community, where we seek to express our faith in both word and action. Striving to reflect the inclusive love of God, we welcome all — and our congregation reflects a wonderful diversity of backgrounds and perspectives. If you're just beginning to ask questions about God, thinking of returning to the church after an extended absence, or are a mature Christian seeking to grow, you can find a home here with us.
PASTORAL TEAM
The Rev. Nancy Ellett Allison, PhD
Senior Pastor
Nancy first served Holy Covenant in 2000-2001 as Interim Pastor, returning in 2004 to accept the role of Senior Pastor. Ordained in 1981 at Royal Lane Baptist Church in Dallas TX, she served as a missionary to Liberia early in her career, teaching at Liberia Baptist Theological Seminary. Coming back to the United States in 1990, Nancy served as Chaplain Coordinator for Baylor University Medical Center and as Family Coordinator for the Texas Baptist Christian Life Commission. She also founded CityChurch: A Baptist Community of Grace in Dallas before moving to North Carolina in 1999.
Nancy earned her BA from Baylor University and her MDiv and PhD from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth. A popular speaker, preacher and retreat leader, Nancy has written and edited for several publications, and serves as Secretary of the Southern Conference of the UCC and a member of the board of directors. With her husband Dale, Church Administrator for Myers Park Presbyterian Church, Nancy has two young adult daughters. For fun, Nancy enjoys working in her exuberant perennial flower garden.
The Rev. Judah L. Jones
Minister of Music
An Elder in the United Methodist Church, Judah brought her broad-ranging musical skills to Holy Covenant’s pastoral team in 2007. A graduate of Duke Divinity School, Judah leads the Chancel choir and musical ensembles, and arranges many of the songs and anthems offered in worship. With her husband Bill, also a minister, Judah is seeking standing in the United Church of Christ.
