where love of neighbor is expressed,
feelings of the heart are shared,
and thinking is encouraged.
Responding to God’s love is our purpose.
When our denomination’s Pilgrim forebears left Europe in 1620, their pastor urged them to keep their minds and hearts open to new ways. God, the Rev. John Robinson said, “has yet more light and truth to break forth out of his holy Word.” We have sought to keep our hearts and minds open ever since, listening for the word of our still-speaking God.
Holy Covenant United Church of Christ seeks to be a transformative community, where we seek to express our faith in both word and action. Striving to reflect the inclusive love of God, we welcome all — and our congregation reflects a wonderful diversity of backgrounds and perspectives. If you’re just beginning to ask questions about God, thinking of returning to the church after an extended absence, or are a mature Christian seeking to grow, you can find a home here with us.

our church’s leadership
“I have always been a strong proponent and advocate for students in the Church. When I was given the chance to minister to a caring community of adults and students that embodies love for all, there was no question in my mind that I would be investing in a worthwhile adventure!”
Steven, a native Charlottean, received his Bachelors of Arts in Religious Studies from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte where he is also pursuing a Masters of Arts in Religious Studies. He is presently finishing a Certificate in Spiritual Direction from The Haden Institute and is currently an active Spiritual Director. Meet our Music Ministers
Holy Covenant is delighted to have Monty Thayer (center) and Jared Fischer (left) leading our dynamic music ministry. Thayer leads music at our south Charlotte location on Sharon Road. Fischer leads music at our north Charlotte location on West W. T. Harris Boulevard.
Thayer has 46 years experience in various areas of music. He graduated from De Anza College in Cupertino, CA, and Foothill Junior College in Los Altos, CA. In 2005, Thayer was called to serve as the pianist and handbell choir director at Sharon Forest Baptist Church in Charlotte. From 1993 to 1995, he was the director of music and pianist at St. Francis United Methodist Church and United Methodist Church Charlotte. Between 1971 and1985, Thayer served in a number of music leadership roles at churches in California. In addition to being an accomplished sight reader, Thayer plays popular, jazz and classical music, and is skilled in playing both piano and organ.
Fischer has studied piano with distinguished musicians such as André De Groote, Evelyne Brancart, and Edmund Battersby, and holds a degree in piano performance from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. An active performer, he concertizes regularly in both solo and chamber recitals on the East Coast, West Coast, and in the Midwest. He has taught piano for over 10 years to students of all ages and levels and continues to be involved in a wide variety of teaching engagements in addition to maintaining his own private studio. In addition to his studies and engagements in classical music, Fischer is an avid rock ‘n’ roll musician. He has developed a unique style of playing that draws upon his eclectic taste in popular, folk, rock, and independent music, and plays often in such projects.
We invite you to visit both locations where you will find an blend of traditional and contemporary music styles. Each Sunday we also try to present a variety of special music featuring various soloists and musicians.
